DUBAI: Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah — the daughter of one of the richest men in the world, the Sultan of Brunei — tied the knot this month in an extravagant traditional wedding.

The 38-year-old princess, who is the eighth child of her billionaire father, got married to her first cousin, Prince Bahar ibni Jefri Bolkiah.

The week-long ceremony took place at the sultan’s opulent official residence, Istana Nurul Iman, which is located outside the capital city of Bandar Seri Bega.

The celebrations featured a royal “powdering” ceremony, an Islamic signing ceremony and a glittering reception.

The Islamic ceremony took place at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque, which is one of Brunei’s national landmarks.

For the “powdering” ceremony, during which the couple’s family bless them with colored rice powder and scented oils, the bride dazzled in a pink full-length dress and gold jewelry.

Meanwhile, for the reception, she wore a white, heavily embellished long-sleeved gown with a mermaid skirt. Her husband wore a white military uniform.
